Iglu-Dorf Zermatt

Iglu-Dorf builds a village of snow rooms high on the mountain above Zermatt each winter, reached from the ski area rather than from the town, and dismantles nothing at the end of the season because the mountain does it instead. The rooms are carved chambers, some plain and some with sculpted walls, all of them holding at roughly the same temperature whatever the weather outside is doing.
A night here is a short, specific experience rather than a stay. Guests arrive in the afternoon, eat together, sleep in expedition-grade bags on insulated platforms, and are usually back on the snow by mid-morning. Washrooms are in a heated service building; the surrounding position, facing some of the best-known peaks in the Alps, is the reason most people come and is at its best around sunset and again at first light.
